Jewelry

Ekaterinburg museum of Fine Arts started to collect jewelry in 1970s,
when the works of Ural masters became well-known all over the world.
That time they displayed at several significant Russian exhibitions
and also out of Russia. Some Russian museums are eager to get the
exhibits of jewelry from the Urals.
Jewelry reached the time of independent
aesthetic significance. The jewelry set acquire the features of
a factory work. The author creates a complete, integral artistic
image. Despite the variety of individual manners the Ural masters
are united by emotionality, by knowledge how to emphasize the beauty
of the stone by its setting. At any noticeable exhibition where
different regions introduce their production the works from Ekaterinburg
differ from others by its poetic and lyric fantasy of the creation
a masterpiece. Every sample got through to the very stone that the
author wants to give a life to the setting, to create the image,
using natural qualities of the material. The stone, its colour and
shape are the impulse for the artist to embody the idea into the
stone.
Love to stone helped Ural masters
establish old traditions in creating the jewelry. In 18th century
Ekaterinburg was already known as a centre of gem and stone cutting.
The richness of artistic images, the plasticity of shapes and a
broad range of technical methods are felt in the works by eminent
masters that is V. Komarov, M. Babin, V. Khramtsov,
L. Ustyantsev, V. Vetrov, M. Lesik, V. Sochnev.
The works of the younger generation - A. Miroshnikov, S. Pinchuk,
V. Ufimtsev, V. Denisov and N. Kusnetsova
- possess the inner freedom and ease in the use of materials. Today
the collection of the museum is a good sample of the trends and
ways of the development of modern jewelry art. High professionalism
and artistic value have found their way to the hearts of numerous
visitors of the museum.
